A humble beginning was made in 14 Dec 1889 by the painstaking initiative of Khan Bahadur Moulvi Bashiruddin in a compound of a rented house in Naurangabad, Etawah, under the name of Islamia School. The school was promoted to High School in the year 1900. In July 1944, the school obtained recognition from the Board as Intermediate College.

The school was groomed by Lala Bansidhar, Mohd Razi, Syed Mohammad Altaf Hussain and several such visionaries. In 1944, the school was rechristened as 'Hafiz Mohammad Siddique Islamia Inter College' after Hafiz Mohammad Siddique, a business who hailed from Kanpur. A huge amount of donation is given by the Businessman of Kanpur Mr. Hafiz Mohammad Siddique and so the college is named after him as HMS Islamia College.
